I graduated from Glasgow Vet School in 1977, before working in small animal practice and developing an interest in ornamental fish. In 1996, I passed the RCVS Certificate in Fish Health & Production then edited the BSAVA Manual of Ornamental Fish in 2001. Although semi-retired, I still see pet fish cases and act as a consultant on the VIN Aquatic Medicine board. In the past, I was the publications officer and treasurer for the FVS and recently sat as the FVS representative on the panel reviewing the BVA policy on non-traditional companion animals (exotic pets).
